How to Read MICROFILM on Canon 500 Getting Started Turn the machine on by pressing the | side of the power switch in the front lower left corner of Canon 500. Pull the carriage out until the glass lifts. Load the reel onto the spindle on the left, and thread microfilm as shown on the diagram. Push the carriage forward, so that it is back under the lens. The glass plate will automatically drop down, and you will be able to see the film on the screen. Press gray buttons for slow (> or <), and red buttons for fast (>> or <<) forward/rewind. Insert microfiche between glass plates upside down. Push the carriage forward, so that it is back under the lens. The glass plate will automatically drop down, and you will be able to see the film on the screen. Focusing the Image The small green Focus lamp should be lit on the Keyboard display located to the right from the main unit. If it is not, press the keyboard’s Select key (on the left side) once or twice until the lamp comes on. Turn the keyboard’s Control dial (on the left side) to focus the image. Zooming the Image Size In/Out Press the Select key once or twice so the Zoom lamp comes on. Turn the Control dial to adjust the image size: down to enlarge, up to reduce. You can store zoom settings in to the M1 (max reduce), M2 (max enlarge), M3 (normal) Zoom keys. You can then use the keys to recall the settings at any time.
